[French Translation] Imagine you have a teenage daughter whom you dearly love, and one day she comes up to you and says, “Daddy, I am pregnant!”

Bishop T D Jakes with Daughter Sarah Henson

Bishop T D Jakes with Daughter Sarah Henson

How would you react? What would you do? Difficult to digest, isn’t it?

A Baby at 14yrs!

Well that’s exactly what happened to Bishop T. D. Jakes, one of the most influential preachers in the world, as his 14 year old daughter Sarah Henson broke this tragic news to him. Can you imagine the storm of questions that would be running on Bishop Jakes’ mind at that point in time:  How will I face the world? What would I tell my church? How could this happen to her?

Well, the good news is that the story doesn’t end here!

Here’s a video of Sarah’s testimony, you cannot afford to miss:

A good question to ask ourselves as we watch this video is, how do we handle the different kinds of mess that we face in our lives? Do we allow our circumstance to rule us? Do we backslide? Do we lose our joy, patience and love?

Guided Me Home

At present, Sarah oversees the women’s ministry at The Potter’s House of Dallas and is happily married to Robert Henson, a professional football player who is a linebacker in the NFL, they have two children.

Sarah recently wrote in a post titled “Guided Me Home” on her blog about how God used her situation to guide her back  “home,” in right relationship with God.

Here is an excerpt of how she puts it:

This is for you…You who chose to give up on your dream because you’re convinced the weight of your past will never outweigh the hope of your future. I just wanted to tell you something that I learned, something that remains true to this day….Find out who you are in Christ, allow him an invitation to live in the deepest darkest parts of your heart. When you know whose you are, you will without a doubt run into WHO you are. God doesn’t take into account the opinions of others before he decides whether or not to lend us grace.
God’s grace has seeped into the holes of crack houses, shelters, abortion clinics, jails, even the labor and delivery room of a 14 year old girl. God’s grace doesn’t consult the whispers’ of men because he knows their deepest, darkest secrets, as well. My life could have taken a detour that left me lost, but You saw fit to not just create a roadblock but also guided me home….

Dear GTH friend, you are not reading this by chance. Here is a word for you: “No matter how broken your lives pieces are, God can still make a masterpiece out of you, if only you could give him all the pieces.” Yes, you heard it right—No matter how bad your MESS is, your God is still capable and willing to turn it into a MESSAGE!

Let us know how this post blessed you and don’t forget to share it with your friends.

This is a must-read not only for every teen but for every parent, particularly those who are dealing with teenaged sons and daughters.

How easy it is for us to get angry and hold the reins and be in control when one of our kids goes wayward instead of just loosing them from their past and allowing the Lord to take control and letting them walk in victory.

We need to ask the Holy Spirit to give us wisdom daily to talk and counsel our children with the love of Christ.  I am sure as parents all of us have faced this issue of difficult teens and I too as well but the post has allowed me to see these conflicts a new realm and filled me with an overwhelming Presence of His love.

    • SMM Admin

Thank you Bernadine for the value that you bring to the GTH family. Your comments are always precious. Keep writing!

Thanks for sharing and it’s amazing to know, what the Lord can do, no matter where we are and what we are.. He is GOD and He is ABLE!!

  • Sebastian

    ….This message has a “double meaning”…..
….Young girls may now “feel loose” to have a child…..
….The message is more about “surving shame” rather than keeping your virginity…..SMH….my two cents

    • http://www.shyjumathew.com/blog Shyju Mathew

I have to disagree brother. Jesus forgave the prostitute, and reminded her not to sin. That was no permission to sin.

This post is only a simple reminder to this generation that there is no sins that the blood of Jesus cannot wash and going out of the church is not the solution. You know that our generation needs to hear that.

  • Myselfmay2

GOD BLESS YOU SARAH FOR SHARING WITH US……………. I KNOW MY BROKEN LIFE PIECES WILL BE PUT TOGETHER TO BE A MASTERPIECE IN JESUS’ NAME…. AMEN.

Praise The LORD .Brother thx 4 praying for my son…God bless you and your family.

  • blessedtoknowYou

Sarah and your mom and dad, somehow your willingness to tell about your teen birth (wonder what God will do with him!) melted the last vestiges of guilt, shame, regret in me.  I modeled for my daughter being a teen mom but when it happened for her I felt so guilty that somehow I had failed her and shame and regret that she nor I could go on to our destiny.  You all model for me that God is indeed working in everything and He loves us no matter what! Thank you!

    • http://www.shyjumathew.com/blog Shyju Mathew

Wow that’s an awesome testimony. Glory be to God!

  • Dahunsiolajumokeme

I have been blessed with this beautiful post, i better now that our mistakes are designed to bring the best out of us if only we return to God in our broken self, surrendering in faith,,,,,,

Sarah you don’t know how much this has blessed me, i’m 48 yrs old and feel like i should be encouraging  someone your age, but baby girl i have cried this day when i watched this clip of your testimony. You and your family have been a blessing to me, if it had not been for the jakes family, i wouldn’t be loosed from my past. So Sarah im so happy for you, now i can go to my daughter and love her more now than i ever had in my life. I wished i lived in texas. you all just don’t know how much i have to offer. But God have work for me to do here in Tifton, GA. God bless you and your family.

  • AL London

Simply amazing, I am a 47 year old man living in England and a regular Internet viewer of the Potters house
Podcasts. Your story and testimony is so relevant to me right now. God Bless

    • http://www.shyjumathew.com/blog Shyju Mathew

      Good to know. Thanks

  • chijioke

It is not about a question of you falling… How old was the mother of Jesus when she conceived. But getting up after the fall…

  • Dele

I understand her position and identify with the message. But, what amazes me the most nowadays is that we have all drifted away from the place of holiness. Right from the pulpit, all we hear is that the grace of God is sufficient to do this, and blah blah blah.

The power that backs the spoken word is holiness. Can’t you see that there is no life anymore in the Church except for few who are still paying the price?

The endtime message should be more on holiness and righteousness. This is what guarantees heaven.

    • http://www.pastorpriji.com Priji

Dear Sister, the message of grace and holiness are not two different things. Righteousness and holiness are a result of the preaching and practice and living in the grace of God! (Titus 2:11,12)

  • BlessedDaughter

WOW!!!!! you made me cry!!!! Thank you so much for being brave enough to share your story. God is indeed faithful. I’m lost for words but my heart is joyful. He mends the broken pieces and makes whole again.

      Yea! Thank God for Sarah!

  • eloka

its a great and inspiring testimony.the decision we make in life determines how far we go. and when we come too know that we live not only for ourselves but for our world then we are short circuiting Gods purpose for us.thanks sarah

  • Treasure
